Privacy Policy

Garagehood is a hobby project: a platform that brings together meetings, crews, photo spots and profiles from car and motorcycle enthusiasts, from our own and external sources. Making that work means processing personal data. This page explains what, why, and what say you have in it.

Garagehood isn't a registered company. There's no business registration number behind this page. That doesn't change your rights: data protection law applies to anyone who processes personal data, hobby project or not.

Who processes your data

Garagehood.com runs as a hobby project, with no separate legal entity behind it. For anything related to your data, reach out through the contact details at the bottom of this page.

What data we collect

We only collect what a feature you use actually needs. Here's the breakdown by category.

Account and profile

  • Username, gender, city and country
  • Bio, Instagram handle and profile photo
  • Cars and motorcycles you add: make, model, year and tuning description
  • Email address, for signing in via AWS Cognito

Location

  • Your city and country, which you enter yourself
  • Your precise location, only if you turn on Nearby, so other members can see how far you are from them

Photos and messages

  • Photos you upload: profile photo, cars or motorcycles, meeting posters, photo spots
  • Messages in crew chats and direct conversations with other members
  • Reviews and reports you post on photo spots or the meet guide

Meetings and RSVPs

  • Meetings you create: title, location, date and description
  • Your RSVP for a meeting, including your name if you RSVP as a guest
  • For a guest RSVP: your IP address and a technical device fingerprint, to stop abuse such as mass fake RSVPs

Technical data

  • Cookies and similar browser storage, see our cookie policy for the full list
  • For push notifications: a technical subscription (endpoint and keys) that lets us send you a message

Payments

  • If you boost a meeting or buy a paid feature, Stripe processes your payment. We never see your full card details.
  • We keep a record of whether and when you bought a boost, to deliver the feature

What we use this data for

We use your data to:

  • Run your account and profile, and make you visible to other members the way you choose
  • Show meetings, let you create them, and process RSVPs
  • Deliver messages between you and other members
  • Prevent abuse, such as fake guest RSVPs
  • Deliver and handle paid features
  • See how the site is used, through Google Analytics, only with your consent, see our cookie policy

Our legal basis

For most of this, we process your data because it's necessary to deliver the service you're using: creating an account, posting a meeting, sending a message. For abuse prevention, like the IP address on a guest RSVP, we rely on legitimate interest: without that check, a script could post hundreds of fake RSVPs. For Google Analytics and push notifications, we ask for your consent first, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share data with

We never sell your data. We do share it with a small number of parties that keep the site running:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)Hosts our database, files and sign-in system, in a data center within the EU (Sweden).
  • Google AnalyticsProcesses visitor statistics, only with your consent. This may process data outside the EU, see Google's privacy policy.
  • StripeProcesses payments for boosts and paid features. We never receive your full card details.

These parties process data on our behalf and aren't allowed to use it for their own purposes.

How long we keep data

Your account and profile stay in place until you ask us to delete them, see 'Your rights' below. Meeting pages stay online after the meeting has passed, so the information stays findable, but the RSVPs for that meeting, including a guest's IP address and device fingerprint, get deleted within a day of the meeting ending.

Messages stay stored for as long as your conversation or crew membership is active.

Your rights

You have the right to see what data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. You can also ask to receive your data in a portable format.

Disagree with how we handle your data? You can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Age

Garagehood is meant for users aged 16 and up. We don't yet actively ask for your age when you create an account. If you find out a child under 16 has created an account, let us know through the contact below and we'll remove it.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, such as encrypted connections and restricted access to our systems. No system is foolproof. If you find a security issue, report it through the contact below.

Changes

We update this privacy policy as the site changes. The date at the top of this page shows when we last did.
